Vasari Corridor
For the first time in some years, individuals rather than just groups can visit the Corridoio Vasariano. This ‘secret’, kilometre-long corridor runs from the Uffizi Gallery, across the top of the Ponte Vecchio and into the Pitti Palace; the Medici commissioned it from Vasari in 1565 by Vasari. Florence’s first family wanted a way to get from A to B without having to rub shoulders with any plebs on the way. Besides being an art gallery with a superb collection of portraits, the corridor offers an unusual, bird’s eye view of Florence. Booking is obligatory.
