Connect Yourself

The major monthly party of the authoritative Czech Techno website and DJ collective rocks the Radost club tonight. With a theme of ‘Prison’, you should dig out your striped PJs for before hitting the dance floor with DJs Xentrix, Agent, Nika 77 and Pavel Krejdl. The usual spaceship décor of this wildly popular microclub will make way for lovely jailhouse greys and iron bars. The food will prove to be slightly better than inmates usually get, with Radost’s all-night vegetarian café serving on the ground floor.

Naked Boys Singing

This cheeky little offering has popped up for the Mardi Gras season and it seems that the title tells it all. A musical revue with songs that have titles like ‘Gratutious Nudity’, ‘Members Only’ and ‘Nothing But the Radio On’ gives a general and accurate impression that the whole show is about a bunch of naked, well-built guys singing, dancing and, well, letting it all hang out. Directed by Jeremy Cumpton.

City Park Ice Rink

While New Orleanians are resigned to celebrating Christmas amidst palm trees and balmy 60-degree weather, the outdoor ice rink at City Park affords a brief experience of the ‘White Christmas’ fantasy. Laboriously erected and maintained during the holiday season, the hockey-sized ice rink is open daily for fun skating, lessons and special events such as birthday parties. Located in the shadow of the beautiful Popp Fountain, one of the park’s landmarks, the ice rink even has a concession tent with hot chocolate to reinforce the illusion of a wintry wonderland.

Vasari Corridor

For the first time in some years, individuals rather than just groups can visit the Corridoio Vasariano. This ‘secret’, kilometre-long corridor runs from the Uffizi Gallery, across the top of the Ponte Vecchio and into the Pitti Palace; the Medici commissioned it from Vasari in 1565 by Vasari. Florence’s first family wanted a way to get from A to B without having to rub shoulders with any plebs on the way. Besides being an art gallery with a superb collection of portraits, the corridor offers an unusual, bird’s eye view of Florence. Booking is obligatory.
