Claire Venables’ adaptation of Ibsen promises us an urban, British version.

Roni Size Reprazent

With a new album, ‘In The Mode’ to promote, Roni Size and Reprazent return to Japan for the first time since their appearance at the Fuji Festival in July. On the new album the group exhibit a more hardcore edge than on the Mercury award-winning ‘New Forms’ that preceded it, and lacks the instant appeal of that classic album. But give it a chance and it grows on you with strong contributions from such luminaries as Method Man, Rahzel and Zach De La Rocha.

La Potée des Halles

This small venue with a gorgeous Art Nouveau interior packs out quickly, so be sure to book. Its many regulars know that the only thing conventionally budget about this place is the size of your bill, making it a real oasis in the heart of Paris. Start with the delicious cassoulette of snails and cèpes, then go for the signature potée (a hearty pork stew served in a cast-iron casserole), the boeuf bourguignon or a daily special. Finish up with the first-rate chocolate mousse or crème brûlée, and bear in mind that the house wines are better than average.

What Lies Beneath

Michelle Pfeiffer and Harrison Ford play husband and wife in this spooky thriller which draws heavily on Hitchcock and guarantees shocks and suspense in equal measures.

11th Annual Washington Jewish Film Festival

Film buffs eagerly look forward to this two-week festival’s eclectic program, and this year’s line-up – including an opening night appearance by Isabella Rossellini and several intriguing documentaries – should be one of the strongest ever. Spread across six different venues, this year highlights include Rossellini’s starring role in ‘The Sky Falls’, the screening of a recently discovered 1913 film ‘The Life of the Jews in Palestine’ and the thrilling and tragic ‘The Brian Epstein Story’.
