Jaragua

DJ Caramelo leads the Latin-American sounds at Jaragua, a club just above then river near Porta San Niccolò. Expect steamy sounds for hot summer nights on a tiny dance floor where you can practise your salsa, merengue and cha-cha. If you don’t know the steps, there is a Latin dance school every night. Cocktails are, of course, south American – Banana Mama, Jaragua, Culo Bello et al. Entrance is free but sadly drinks are not.

Rosanna Casano

The oil paintings in this intriguing exhibition, by one of Barcelona’s young established artists, display intricate urban landscapes impregnated with human presence, but absent of any figures. Fragments of the city viewed from the sky are repeated over and over to the point of abstraction, yet, these bits of rich form and colour are still charged with the deep solitude of city life. The works are based on a formal study of architecture and act as powerful metaphors of the human condition in urban spaces.

Saturdays at Club Mono

The club that replaced the Mean Fiddler some months ago is finally finding its feet with the right mix of student and club nights. And most of its new found success is due to the DJs. Miss Moneypenny’s Jim Shaft Ryan is a new addition to Saturdays and will no doubt be followed by his legion of fans. He is joined ‘at the decks’ by Paddy Sheridan, acting as a kind of warm-up for the early arrivals. Mono looks the same as the Mean Fiddler and now, hopefully, it will sound the same as well.
